Test format

How the CCL test works

The Credentialed Community Language (CCL) test checks that you can interpret everyday community conversations. Many people sit it for the points it can add to some Australian visa applications.

01

Two dialogues

Each test has two recorded dialogues between an English speaker and a speaker of your other language, in a community setting.

02

Short segments

Dialogues are split into short segments. After each segment, you interpret it into the other language.

03

Marked out of 90

Each dialogue is marked out of 45. You need 63 out of 90 overall to pass, with a minimum score on each dialogue.

Test rules can change. Always check the current details on the NAATI website. XINGO is independent and not affiliated with NAATI.

Languages

Practise in your language pair

Every dialogue pairs English with your other language. Choose yours for tips specific to it, or type in a language that isn't listed once you sign up.

How to prepare

Practise the way you'll be tested

  1. 01

    Practise out loud, every day

Reading transcripts is not the same as speaking under time pressure. Short daily sessions beat one long weekend cram.

  2. 02

    Get every number and name

Dates, times, amounts and names are where marks go first. Note what you dropped and repeat that scenario.

  3. 03

    Keep it complete, not perfect

Missing information costs more than a slightly awkward phrase. Aim to carry every detail across.

  4. 04

    Watch your score trend

Each attempt is scored out of 90. Keep practising until you're clearing 63 consistently, not just once.
